The importance of tarpaulin recycling
The environmental impact of tarpaulins
At Sheedo, our mission is to give waste a second life, and we want to help you do the same.
We all know that the excessive use of single-use plastics has become a global environmental problem. These plastics, such as bags, bottles, wrappers or advertising banners, are discarded after their first use, leading to the accumulation of plastic waste in the environment.
This waste takes centuries to decompose and often ends up in our oceans and other natural ecosystems, causing severe damage to wildlife.
It’s as serious as it sounds, but fortunately, many companies are already contributing to changing this situation. You can join the change too!
Got any advertising banners lying around?
If your company has advertising banners that you would like to recycle, we propose two solutions:
1. Donate the banners, free of charge and commitment, so that Sheedo can recycle them and transform them into new products.
2. Donate the banners and we can create personalised products for your company. Please specify the size of the banner and the product you would like to obtain from it. After a brief assessment, we will inform you of the products that can be made with your banners, and you can decide how many you wish to purchase.

That’s how we created our first recycled bags from advertising banners!
Let’s dive into how we made our very first recycled canvas bag, with a little help from our friends at BCORP
How to start recycling your tarpaulins

1: Canvas receipt
The tarpaulins we use for our products are donated by our clients and partners. Although they are tarpaulins from advertising brands, we avoid displaying logos and brands on the final product, unless the client who owns the tarpaulin requests otherwise.
2: Cutting and washing
Advertising banners are often very large and therefore extremely heavy. They are a challenging material to handle and transport, however, there is no obstacle that can stop us.
Once we’ve chopped the billboards into smaller bits, we give them a good clean to get rid of the dirt they’ve picked up. Just so you know, they might still have some scaffolding stains, as they’re pretty stubborn.
3: Design and manufacturing
We’ve developed simple, elegant, and practical patterns to recycle advertising banners and transform them into high-quality products with a long lifespan.
The result is captivating: each product is completely unique, as every piece of banner used is different and unrepeatable.

4: Personalisation
The outcome of this entire process is a range of products designed to be given away as everyday corporate promotional gifts.
We create tote bags, laptop sleeves, cases, card holders, and any other product you can suggest, as long as the nature of the canvas material allows it.
All products are designed to be personalised with your company logo or any message you want to convey.
In this way, we manage to reduce environmental impact and extend the lifespan of these materials.
Thanks to you and all the companies that collaborate in this process, we are able to create new useful products and protect our planet at the same time.

Zurich: Canvas bags as successful corporate gifts
Zurich is giving its old advertising banners a new lease of life by turning them into stylish tote bags
For our Zurich project, we produced these fantastic canvas bags made from their advertising banners previously used to sponsor running marathons.
The bags were then distributed to people who joined their running community at two marathons where the brand was involved.
With this initiative, we managed to surprise everyone who received these practical, sustainable, and durable tote bags, all thanks to the distinctive material they’re made from.
Frequently asked question about billboards recycling
What types of billboards can be recycled?
We primarily recycle PVC billboard and other flexible plastic materials used in outdoor advertising (for events, trade fairs, scaffolding, etc.).
At Sheedo Studio, we repurpose these types of billboards to transform them into products like tote bags, wash bags, pouches, keyrings, or laptop sleeves, provided their condition allows.
What are the environmental benefits of recycling billboards?
Recycling billboards helps to:
-
Reduce single-use plastic waste.
-
Prevent these materials from ending up in landfills or oceans.
-
Extend the lifespan of existing resources without needing to manufacture new fabrics.
-
Promote a more responsible and creative circular economy.
Where can I take my used advertising billboards to be correctly recycled?
You can donate your banners to Sheedo Studio, without obligation, so we can reuse them in new products.
Simply contact us via hello@sheedostudio.com or complete the form available on our website.
How can I tell if an billboard is suitable for reuse or recycling?
While no two billboards are exactly alike, most can be reused if they are in reasonable condition. It’s important that they:
-
Are not excessively deteriorated or torn.
-
Are made from a flexible and durable material.
-
Can be cut and cleaned.
We will assess their condition before transforming them.
What is the environmental impact of billboards if they are not recycled?
Banners are typically made from plastic materials that take centuries to decompose.
If discarded without treatment, they can end up contaminating marine and terrestrial ecosystems, contributing to the global plastic waste crisis.
What steps should I follow to transform a billboard into a new product?
At Sheedo Studio, we make it easy for you:
1. You tell us the dimensions of the banner you want to recycle.
2. We calculate how many products can be made from it (e.g., tote bags).
3. You decide how many units you want, and we then manufacture and personalise them with your logo.
